Belgian countertenor Patrick Van Goethem studied with Paul Esswood, Julia Hamari and Andreas Scholl. He works as a soloist with most distinguished conductors in the early music field such as Ton Koopman (The Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra), Frans Brüggen (Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century), Masaaki Suzuki (Bach Collegium Japan), Peter Neumann (Collegium Cartusianum), the late Gustav Leonhardt and Jos van Veldhoven (The Netherlands Bach Society), Hans-Christoph Rademann (Dresdner Hofmusik), Helmuth Rilling (Bach Collegium Stuttgart), Lars Ulrik Mortensen (Concerto Copenhagen), Frieder Bernius (Barockorchester Stuttgart), Eric Cross (Newcastle Baroque), Martin Haselböck (Wiener Akademie), Michel Corboz (Gulbenkian Orchestra), Diego Fasolis (I Barocchisti).
He takes part in many recordings for a.o. BIS (Bach's Ascension- and Easteroratorio with Masaaki Suzuki and Bach Collegium Japan), Carus (Messen Heinichen and Zelenka with Hans-Christoph Rademann and Dresdner Hofmusik, Jephtha with the Dresdner Barockorchester), Challenge Records (Buxtehude cantatas with Ton Koopman and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra), Glossa (B-minor Mass, Orchestra of the 18th Century, Frans Brüggen) and Passacaille.
In 2005 Patrick made his American debut with with The American Bach Soloists conducted by Jeffrey Thomas and with The Washington Bach Consort conducted by Reilly Lewis. He is frequently requested for his solocantata programs with a.o. the Canadian baroque ensemble Les Idées Heureuses led by Geneviève Soly (concerts in the baroque festivals of Picardie and Pontoise) and with Marcel Ponseele's baroque ensemble Il Gardellino (Bachfest Leipzig). European tours with Frans Brüggen’s Orchestra of the 18th Century are regulary on his concertschedule (Bach's St. John's Passion and B-minor Mass).
In 2010 he sang the role of Agostino in a new production of J.A. Hasse's "La Conversione di Sant' Agostino" (Dresden and Hamburg). Engagements in 2011 included Pergolesi's Stabat Mater in a series of concerts with soprano Katharine Fuge, with the Noord Nederlands Orkest, B minor Mass with the New Japan Philharmonic conducted by Frans Brüggen, Bach cantatas with the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla conducted by the late Gustav Leonhardt during the Festival Semana de Musica Religiosa in Cuenca, and a European tour with Ton Koopman and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Bach's Actus Tragicus and Buxtehude's Membra Jesu Nostri) . In 2012 concerts were scheduled with the Berlin based baroque ensemble Concerto Melante.
His concert repertoire also includes works of contemporary composers. In 2007 he sang the worldpremiere of the opera ‘Trans Warhol’ in Geneva, about the life of Andy Warhol, by the French composer Philippe Schoeller. He frequently performs Orff’s Carmina Burana (a.o. during German tours with concerts in the Alte Oper Frankfurt and the Philharmonie in Munich).

In addition to his career as a concertsinger, Patrick Van Goethem performs with his baroque ensemble The Flanders Baroque Consort of which he is founder, member and artistic advisor.
